Role: Hedgehog Care and Crafting

 My main duties include feeding, cleaning out and weighing the hedgehogs, as well as crafting items to raise money for the hostel.  I started volunteering to do my part to give hedgehogs a fighting chance of going back to the wild.

Role: Trustee and All Round Support

I am a Trustee and work alongside Heather at the Chatteris site to provide all round support that the hostel requires. I started to volunteer as I thought that it would be really interesting (and I was right!!).

Lucy's fun fact:  I can name most breeds of sheep in the British Isles! (Baa-rilliant)

Role: Hedgehog Transporter

Hedgehogs are my favourite wild animal and I feed up to three each night. One became unwell in July, and I took him to Heather, who successfully treated him. Soon afterwards there was another poorly hedgehog which I offered to collect, and therefore officially joined the Chatteris team!

Helen's fun fact: I love travelling with my camera and have photographed birds in Arctic Norway where it was -28°C!

Role: Hedgehog Care, Fostering, Transporter

 My main duties are as a fosterer, driver and I occasionally help at the hostel with cleaning out, removing fly strike etc.  The reason that I started to volunteer at Heather's Hedgehog Hostel in Chatteris is simple - I absolutely love hedgehogs!! 

Sharon's fun fact: I know my onion! I used to work at an onion factory! (Very ap-"peeling"!)

Role: Hedgehog Ambulance Driver

I collect poorly hedgehogs in and around Chatteris, and bring them to the hostel to be treated. Hedgehogs are my favourite animal and I started volunteering because these wonderful species need all of the help that they can get.

I (Alison) support with cleaning cages and weighing hedgehogs with help from my daughter Emily (5). Emily especially enjoys keeping the hedgehogs company in the car when I bring poorly hedgehogs to the hostel.

 I started volunteering as I finally retired and I had more time.  I do the afternoon shift,  we check the hogs, feed babies, check food and water and clean them when necessary. I love doing it, for the love of the hedgehogs. It's inspiring because Heather literally puts everything into looking after them and she never turns anyone away.  

Marie's fun fact:  I make a mean carrot scone!

 After working in recruitment and marketing for most of my career, I wanted to make a difference in the Chatteris community after moving here in 2022. I love hedgehogs!!

Laura's fun fact: I am the biggest ABBA fan on the planet, and I played a hedgehog in a school Christmas nativity once... I think they ran out of donkey costumes...

Role: Social Media Support

 My role is to help with video and scheduling content for our social media platforms.  I've created video content for companies big and small, so if I can help such a wonderful (and cute!) cause with my passion for video, I'm there! My parents used to care for hedgehogs too, so I have many happy memories looking after them as a child. 

Rob's fun fact: An animation I made in 2014 was shortlisted in 8 film festivals worldwide!
